In Aurora, Mayor Mike Coffman faces a forceful challenge from the left by City Councilman Juan Marcano When Mike Coffman won the Aurora mayor’s office in 2019, he did so by a hair — and netted just shy of 36% of the vote in a crowded race to lead Colorado’s third-largest city.In the Nov. 7 election, voters in the state’s most racially and ethnically diverse city will decide whether to give the former Republican congressman a second term as mayor. He’s got a battle on his hands, facing outspoken first-term City Councilman Juan Marcano, a progressive Democrat, as his leading challenger in a three-way race. While Aurora’s elections are officially nonpartisan, Marcano and a bloc of Democratic council candidates who are vying for five other seats on the ballot are hoping to restore the council’s leftward lean. In 2021, Coffman-supported candidates swung the majority on the 11-member council — which includes the mayor — in conservatives’ favor, after two cycles that had seen liberal gains. The election’s outcome, and the resul...

Spinelli’s opening 2nd deli in longtime Congress Park market When Jake Riederer shut down his pandemic-era pop-up, Open Sandwiches, last year, he was ready to move on from the restaurant industry to a new kind of business.“My wife and I started really thinking about the neighborhood market industry and loved the idea of opening in spots with food deserts or just revitalizing little neighborhood markets,” he said.Their first opportunity was very close to home.John Moutzouris, who bought Spinelli’s Market, 4621 E. 23rd Ave., from owners Jerry and Mary Ellen Spinelli in 2014, offered to sell half of the Park Hill neighborhood Italian market and deli to Riederer and his wife, Cecelia Jones. And it just so happened that Riederer’s mom lives in Park Hill, while Jones’ first-ever job was at Spinelli’s when she was a teenager.Neighborhood mainstay 12th Avenue Market in Congress Park. Suburban voters also will have new faces to choose from for local political office as long-time stalwarts exit the stage. Most communities have elections for city council seats, and some for mayor, on the ballot. Apple Maps app is sending drivers dangerous wrong-way directions, how can it be fixed?: Roadshow

Apple Maps app is sending drivers dangerous wrong-way directions, how can it be fixed?: Roadshow Q: There is a dangerous and incorrect instruction on the iPhone Maps app. I don’t know how to contact them. If one wishes to enter Highway 101 north from Bailey Avenue just south of San Jose, coming from the west, the app tells you to turn right AT the stop sign, just after crossing over the freeway. If one does exactly what it says, you would turn into the exit from northbound 101 going in the wrong direction. The on-ramp to 101 north is about 25 feet BEFORE the stop sign, not AT the stop sign. There is little lighting at night. If a driver is unfamiliar with the area and following app instructions explicitly, they would end up going south on the northbound side of the freeway.I read your column regularly and appreciate your common sense approach. Thanks for your great advice and counsel.Gela RussellA: I bring this to you, Roadshow readers, to advise how Gela can get these Apple map app instructions corrected. I searched Apple’s website and tried a few phone calls but each call...

49ers’ Bosa, Warner take responsibility for defense’s failings in Minnesota

49ers’ Bosa, Warner take responsibility for defense’s failings in Minnesota MINNEAPOLIS – Nick Bosa, clad only in a white towel around his waist, made an important stop on his way to the 49ers’ showers after Monday night’s 22-17 defeat to the Vikings.Bosa stood next to Fred Warner’s locker and had a 5-minute, state-of-the-defense chat, while Warner sat glumly in his full uniform in front of his locker.Their words were hushed, their body language minimal, and yet their intention was obvious: Fix this defense before things snowball beyond a two-game skid.“I think me and him try to take as much of the brunt of failure, being who we are, the leaders that we try to be,” Bosa said at the media podium. “We were just kind of talking about that.”Bosa and Warner are the homegrown All-Pros who are supposed to lead the 49ers’ defense and franchise into Super Bowl contention. Bosa is to produce sacks as the NFL’s highest-paid non-quarterback, and Warner is to quarterback a unit beyond just hyping up their huddle. They both know this, and that is why they had ...
