Usme leads Colombia to a 1-0 win over Jamaica and a spot in the Women’s World Cup quarterfinals MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Catalina Usme scored early in the second half and Colombia edged Jamaica 1-0 on Tuesday to advance to the Women’s World Cup quarterfinals for the first time. Colombia will face European champion England on Saturday at Stadium Australia in Sydney. England advanced on penalties after a scoreless draw with Nigeria on Monday night. Usme yelled in celebration after trapping a long pass from Ana Guzman and calmly finishing in the 52nd minute. It was the first goal Jamaica conceded in the tournament. Teenage star Linda Caicedo had opportunities but wasn’t able to add to Colombia’s tally in a tough, physical encounter. Las Cafeteras, making their third World Cup appearance, also reached the Round of 16 in 2015 but were stopped in a 2-0 loss to the United States. The Jamaican women were in the knockout round for the first time in just their second appearance in the tournament. The match at Melbourne’s Rectangular Stadium was an anticipated showdo...

After all, the Tide went 11-2 and didn’t make the College Football Playoff in 2022 and then said goodbye to Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young and two-time national defensive player of the year Will Anderson Jr.Not exactly cause for alarm in Tuscaloosa, but for a program with six national titles in the last 14 years — and five of the last seven preseason No. 1 rankings — there are more unknowns than there have been in a while.“Our team seems to be pretty hungry this year and motivated,” coach Nick Saban said during SEC media days. “Like all teams, we probably have some issues that are created by graduations and people leaving the program.
